Transfer News: Mourinho tells Manchester United to buy N’golo Kante or he will leave club
Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has said that for him to remain at Old Trafford as manager, United must buy N’Golo Kante from Chelsea.
Kante, French midfielder signed from Leicester in the summer of 2016, is now considered one of the world’s finest defensive midfielders, and his talents have turned Mourinho to a keen admirer.
The Portuguese handler, according to Don Balon, has told Red Devil’s hierarchy to higher the midfielder or he’ll go.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s efforts to land Alex Sandro from Juventus are being frustrated by the high asking price the Italian giants have placed on their player.
Chelsea’s manager, Antonio Conte has been a long time admirer of Sandro, as he looks to bolster his options at the back.
The Italian giants reportedly are holding out for £60 million, a fee the Blues are not willing to match.
Also, Bayern Munich midfielder, Arturo Vidal is ignoring reported interest from Chelsea and is instead focused on winning silverware with his club this season.
The Premier League champions have been linked with a €37million bid for the midfielder, who worked with Blues boss Antonio Conte at Juventus.
But Vidal told newsmen, “Yes, I’ve heard about it, but I’m fully focused on the season with Bayern and I’m only looking day-to-day.”

Bishop Ajose reveals shocking prophecies about Buhari, Atiku, Tinubu, APC
A former chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ikeja chapter and General Overseer of Prophetic Prayer Ministries International Bishop Theophilus Ajose has revealed the message he had concerning President Muhammadu Buhari.
He advised the president to abide by doctors instructions, calling for continued prayers over his health.
In his message titled, ‘2018 – Year of enforcement of Divine prophecies and a new world order’, Bishop Ajose urged Buhari to pray against food poisoning and betrayal from APC stalwarts.
“There shall be series of resignation from his cabinet and government officers of his government in the second and third half of 2018”, he said.
On former governor of Lagos state, Bola Tinubu, Ajose said he also risks betrayal from trusted party members.
“He should protect his family from politics and political arrows if he must enjoy the peace he desperately needs at this latter part of his life and destiny. He also needs to watch his health seriously in 2018.”
On former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, the bishop said, “2018 look bright and rewarding for the political proverbial cat with nine lives and the PDP Presidential hopeful. There shall be a major threat to his life, and some unholy disclosures concerning him shall bring a temporary setback to his political ambition.
“He will reach out to his former political foes and build bridges of goodwill in an attempt to stabilise his political base. He must watch his health very seriously and the “medication” he receives which may be poison in disguise.”
The cleric added that, “Two of Nigeria’s elder statesmen shall “go home” in 2018. The world and the nation shall miss them. A great world leader shall die in the first half of 2018. A governor shall be impeached in the second half of the year.
“There are going to be climatic and environmental changes of great immense proportion in 2018. The effect of the degradation of the ozone layer is to be felt on the earth more than ever before.
“The world will witness natural disaster in 2018 more than ever that many cities, states and even two sovereign nations shall be wiped off the map of the world due to earthquakes, storms and hurricanes. For the first time, some African nations shall experience earthquakes and natural disasters beyond the ordinary.
“Despite the cordial relationship that the Nigeria government presently enjoys with the USA, there shall be policy and diplomatic disagreement and confrontation with the USA in 2018 starting from the second quarter of the year.”

Archibishop Okogie reveals why Buhari should retire in 2019
Olubunmi Okogie, Archbishop emeritus of the Catholic archdiocese of Lagos, says President Muhammadu Buhari should retire quietly come 2019.
Okogie said President Buhari has performed woefully and does not deserve to be re-elected.
There are indications that the president will seek re election in 2019.
Minister of communication, Adebayo Shittu after a closed-door meeting with Buhari told state house correspondents that the President’s ardent supporters would prevail on him to seek re-election.
Reports emerged that Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, has been appointed as the director-general of Buhari campaign.
Okogie speaking with New Telegraph said it was an insult to Nigerians for the president to be talking about 2019 election despite challenges.
The archbishop further advised Buhari to respect himself and think of finding solutions to the problems confronting Nigerians than re election.
“What has he done in the years he had been in the saddle? He has performed woefully; that’s the verdict of Nigerians.
“Let the president respect himself and retire quietly. Coming out to talk of 2019 is insulting not only to those who voted him to power but to all Nigerians.
“There are so many problems confronting the people and he should be thinking of what to do about them. For second term, he must be a joker.
“That is all I can say for now because I don’t want to dignify them with a lengthy statement. It is not worth it.” Okogie said

Buhari’s re-election bid: PDP warns Amaechi to resign
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday asked the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi to resign from the federal Executive Council.
This is contained in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan.
The PDP said its call followed the the appointment of Amaechi as the Director-General (DG) of President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019 re-election campaign.
“If APC has any strand of dignity, then Amaechi must resign as the Minister of Transportation having been appointed and already functioning as the DG of President Buhari’s Campaign.
“Under the constitution of Nigeria, Mr. Amaechi cannot combine the job of a Minister of the Federal Republic with another responsibility such as the DG of a campaign organization.
“Amaechi’s action in accepting the job while still holding office as Minister is in clear breach of the oath of office and the oath of allegiance which he swore in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). He should therefore resign his office as minister with immediate effect,” he said
The party stated that Amaechi, perhaps in his desperation for recognition, has already began to function in the capacity as mobilizer for Buhari’s second term, adding that, he had already held meetings with some of the governors elected on the platform of the APC.
PDP recalled that when as a serving Minister of Works, Chief Tony Anenih was appointed to head the campaign of then President Olusegun Obasanjo, the former resigned his cabinet appointment.
It expressed shock that the APC is more interested in setting up an electoral structure for a second term when Nigerians are dying daily of hunger and poverty while others are being slaughtered in their communities by marauders across the country.
“Is it not instructive for Nigerians to now know that the APC has not the littlest agenda on governance for our people and do not have the interest of Nigerians at heart?
“They have shown that all they care for is their selfish political and pecuniary interests”, the statement added.

Oyo PDP mourns Ibadan newscaster, blasts Ajimobi over N50b healthcare fund
The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday mourned the death of Mr. Olufemi Oluwajobi, who was until his death a newscaster with Fresh FM, Ibadan.
Oluwajobi, DAILY POST recalled was mauled down by a hit and run vehicle on Sunday 31st December, 2017.
It was learnt that after he was hit by the car, his colleagues and sympathisers rushed him to a nearby private hospital where he was subsequently referred to the Oyo State Teaching Hospital at Adeoyo, Ring road Ibadan.
But, PDP in a statement titled “Olufemi Oluwajobi and a death too many: The comatose of Oyo State Health Sector”, signed by its Publicity Secretary, Engineer Akeem Olatunji, alleged that it was unfortunate that the state hospital does not have equipment to cater for emergency or accident victims.
Olatunji said “From information gathered, late Oluwajobi was referred to Adeoyo State Hospital Ring Road from a private clinic where he earlier got a first aid treatment owing to injuries sustained from the vehicular accident.
“It was alleged that on arrival at the state health facility, very disheartening to know that there was no electricity nor generating plants to lighten up the premises and to make the matter worse, the government so-called teaching hospital has no medical equipments to cater for emergency or accident victims.
“Late Oluwajobi was attended to by a resident Doctor but the hospital has no Intensive Care Unit (ICU) just like other Oyo State owned hospitals across the State. The victim was then referred to UCH but the ambulances owned by the hospital have been grounded for long time and have no oxygen facilities.
“The whole hospital has only one driver and it’s impossible for him to operate 24hrs in a day for months. A visit to the State hospital will reveal the obsolete state of the hospital, it is either they are non-functioning, obsolete or comatose.
“The situation of Adeoyo general hospital is what is obtainable in all the State owned hospitals across the State and a sad reminder of the governance failure under the ruling All Progressives Congress of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
“The staffing is grossly inadequate and poorly renumerated. The Primary Health Centres across the State relies on ad-hoc staff to attend to patients thereby putting lives of the poor citizens in danger.
“Till date, the health workers are being owed by the Oyo State government, probably this may account for low morale among the staffers.
“Many people have had agony experiences in all the Oyo State owned government hospitals, apart from lack of constant electricity and non functional generating sets, patients fetch water from home or buy pure water for their usages in the hospital.”
Olatunji also alleged that the hospital as at today was a morgue and not a health care facility.
“Adeoyo State Hospital as at today is a morgue not a health care facility. The Adeoyo hospital has no functioning X-ray machine and oxygen bottle.
“The PHCN had to disconnect electricity to the hospitals due to nonpayment of electricity bill, It is surprising that at this modern age, rechargeable lanterns are being used to take child birth delivery in the hospital while the entrance of the hospital have been taking over by weeds and refuse.
“That we lost a promising and a rising star like Olufemi Oluwajobi is a clear indication that the Oyo State health sector is another failure like education, agriculture, sports, infrastructures and other sectors”, he added.
He then queried the purpose of the recently launched state N50b health endowment fund.
“Of what purpose is the N50 billion endowment fund generated by the Oyo State government to revamp the health sector and what has the Oyo State led APC government done with the federal allocations, IGR and external aides that ran into billions of Naira in the last six years and six months. What has been the significant difference in our PHCs and general hospitals prior to the emergence of Abiola Ajimobi and now?
“Looking indepth into how we got into this precarious state, corruption and lack of foresightedness are responsible for our woes. Going round Oyo State, none of the acquired emergency tricycles could be seeing anywhere and the mobile clinic vans are nowhere to be found despite spending billions of state fund to purchase them.
“It saddens the PDP that at a time the State health sector supposed to be enhanced and well fortified with more qualified personnel, the APC led-administration recently went ahead to sack almost 300 of LAUTECH teaching hospital health workers. Curiously, the state fund was diverted to establish a private health facility for the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi named Access to Basic Care, ABC which is well equipped with state of the art medical equipment while the primary health centres across the State are in comatose with majority of them dilapidated in structure.
“It baffles the PDP that while the government owned Hospital is lacking basic equipments to discharge its responsibilities to the tax payers, the same government allegedly set up a private health facility less than 300metres to the government owned in which patients are referred to thereby killing public health institution for personal benefits.
“To sum up the whole scenario, the Oyo State health sector is in a terrible, woeful and deplorable state. The situation has to be redeemed and the PDP is calling on Gov Ajimobi to sit up and justify the billions of Naira spent so far on the health sector without results.
“It is expressly clear that Late Olufemi Oluwajobi died as a result of a failed system that has eaten deep into the fabrics of Oyo State. May the soul of Olufemi Oluwajobi continue to hunt our rulers who have refused to do the needful to salvage our health system.
“In view of the above, the PDP in Oyo State is giving the Governor Abiola Ajimobi led APC government a two-week ultimatum to declare a state of emergency in the Oyo State health sector and failure to do this will result to a strong petition to the EFCC, ICPC, National Human Rights Commissions (NHRC), World Health Organisations (WHO) and UN over unwarranted lost of lives due to incompetence and corruption demonstrated by the Oyo State APC government in the last six years and six months!!!
“The PDP hereby extends our condolence message to the Chairman, management and staff of Fresh FM 105.9 Ibadan on the avoidable loss of one of their shinning light, Late Olufemi Oluwajobi who passed away at the break of the New Year. Our prayers are with the immediate and extended family of the deceased. May God console them, now and many years to come on this sad loss”, he added.
But, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) described the PDP’s allegations as laughable.
APC’s Director, Media, Research and Strategy, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olatunde while reacting, said though the death of the young man was regrettable, the accusations of PDP does not hold water.
Olatunde said “Honestly, the death of the young man is regrettable but that doesn’t make the Government of Senator Abiola Ajimobi culpable.
“The accusation of recently launched #50billion Health infrastructure endowment fund doesn’t hold water as it is meant to tackle Infrastructural deficit occasioned by 8years of Governance hiatus by PDP in every facet of life, although not much was realized from the launching.
Infact, the little that was realized is being targeted for first quarter of 2018 utilization, according to the Board saddled with its management.
“However, apart from Government unfailing annual appropriation to Health Sector, Government has attracted Drugs and Medical Equipment Donation, valued at #200m from European Donors which are on ground for anyone to see. Further clarification of enquiry are advised to be channeled to either Honourable Commissioner for Health or Chairman State Hospital Management board”.

“I’m very proud to be here now. It’s always on my mind to win everything,” he told reporters in Accra.
“Since I became professional, in my mind, I want to be the best player ever in Egypt. I know what I want, and I know how to do it, so I’m working very hard every day to prove myself.
“That’s what I want, so I think I’m going well, I’m doing well, so let’s see [what happens] in the future,” he added.
The Egyptian International also revealed that there will not be a strain in his relationship with Liverpool team-mate and Senegal forward, Mane despite their competition to be crowned Africa’s best.
“Sadio and I are very close friends and have been from the first day I arrived at Liverpool,” continued Salah.
“We share everything together. We’re happy and very proud. At the end of the day, we will wish each other [well] to give more,” he said.

PDP Prepares To Remove Lagos State Governor
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said on Tuesday it would capture Lagos in the 2019 governorship election.
The PDP Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Taofeek Gani made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
“We will shock the All Progressives Congress (APC) by winning the governorship election in Lagos in 2019,’’ Gani said.
According to him, 2019 will be the beginning of the end of the APC-led government in the state. Gani said the party had mapped out strategies to unseat the ruling party, adding “with the new spirit in PDP in Lagos, we are sure of winning in 2019’’.
He described the performance of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode as “dismal’’, claiming that “Lagosians are eagerly waiting for the PDP to take over and deliver purposeful leadership’’.
The party’s spokesman added: “We will shock the APC in 2019, take my words, we already have lots of novel ideas to wrestle them from power.
“For now, we will keep our strategies sealed, when the game starts, we will unleash them.
“Ambode has failed in purposeful governance, what we see is propaganda and project planet, the people desire change, which is PDP.”
According to him, the party has successfully resolved its internal crisis and is working assiduously to ensure a successful primary in the state.
Gani described recent media report on the defection of 1500 PDP members to the APC in the state as mere propaganda.
“It is laughable to hear that 1500 PDP members decamped to APC in Oshodi, this is outrageous propaganda.
“I am from Oshodi-Isolo, the area remains the strongest nest of PDP, we won all elective offices in the 2015 general elections, in spite the presence of the APC state chairman in the area,’’ he said.

Checkout Images Of Cat Born With Two Heads And Three Eyes | Photos
The story of Bettie Bee, a cat born with 2 faces and 3 eyes in South Africa on the 12th of December 2017 is getting global attention.
Born in Eastern Cape, South Africa, Bettie Bee was born alongside two other kittens, but her siblings were normal. It turned out that her double face made it difficult for her to nurse, which meant she was at risk of starving to death as at the time of her birth.
Her owner took it to a nearby cat rescuer who is known for taking in special needs cats. The rescuer, started tube-feeding the kitten. She said she could “feed either mouth, both are functional, both lead to the stomach.”
Because of the kitten’s uniqueness, the rescuer started a Facebook page for Bettie Bee with pictures and updates. The kitten appears to have a condition called craniofacial duplication, or diprosopus.
The latest update on the Cat’s official Facebook page reads;
‘Bettie Bee is an angel now. I took her to the Vet to let her go peacefully. I’m shattered. She was doing great until 2 days ago, she started with pneumonia, we suspect somehow some milk came up and went into her lungs, started with treatment immediately and thought we were winning until she vomited (probably nauseous from the antibiotics or mocus) and got more milk in her lungs, she was struggling and I said to myself from the beginning I would not let her suffer. For 16 days I gave my all and so did she, I would do it all over again, she deserved to have a chance at life but sadly it was not meant to be. Thank you so much for everyone’s love for her, kind words, prayers and encouragement. I will close this page down in a day or two.
Nigerian Army rescue 700 farmers from Boko Haram captive
The Nigerian Army in a statement released by Colonel Timothy Antigha the Deputy Director Public Relations of 8 Division says Over 700 farmers, fishermen regain freedom from Boko Haram.
According to him, ‘over 700 farmers, fishermen and members of their families who were hitherto held by Boko Haram terrorists as farm workers have fled the various islands in Lake Chad to Monguno.
The exodus of the former Boko Haram abductees is not unconnected to a follow up operation which was conducted a few days ago to exploit the gains of the recent successful Operation DEEP PUNCH 2 in Chikun Gudu and adjourning localities’.
‘The follow up operation which was conducted by the Nigerian Air Force and 38 Task Force Artillery Brigade, 8 Division, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, was targeted at destroying Boko Haram infrastructure and logistics; such as communication centers, fabrication yards, bomb making equipment, vehicles and other means of sustenance.
The ensuing collapse of their command structure and means of survival have therefore triggered the abandonment of the islands and escape of the abductees to Monguno’.
The statement also said, ‘so far, over 700 former Boko Haram abductees, comprising adult males, females and children have been received by troops of 242 Battalion in Monguno. Profiling of the displaced persons is on- going to ensure that no terrorist takes advantage of the situation to sneak into the town. Preliminary Investigation will focus on finding out where wanted Boko Haram Commanders have migrated to.
Meanwhile, 2 pregnant women among the abductees gave birth yesterday in the holding centers. It could be recalled that 2 weeks ago the initial wave of Boko Haram abductees who regained freedom following an offensive military operation in Chikun Gudu were similarly received in Monguno’.

She was 71.
The children of the deceased, government officials, grandchildren, relatives, the royal family, and many others attended the funeral.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who travelled outside the state, was represented by Deputy Governor Moses Adeyemo, as well as members of the State Executive Council (Exco), including Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Alhaji Olalekan Alli, and the Chief of Staff, Dr. Gbade Ojo.

‘$48m fraud’: EFCC detains Jonathan’s campaign chief
How was $48,485,127 diverted from the accounts of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF)?
This is the knot Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) is battling to untie.
Dr. Ngozi Olojeme, former NSITF chair, was quizzed for hours yesterday over the alleged diversion of the fund.
Olojeme, who was declared wanted a few weeks ago by the EFCC on the order of a court, turned herself in.
The EFCC has arraigned a former Managing Director of NSITF, Umar Munir Abubakar and four others for alleged diversion of N18billion.
The cash was said to be the Federal Government’s contribution to take-off grants and Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS) for Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The others are Henry Ekhasomi Sambo, Adebayo Adebowale Aderibigbe, Chief Richard U. Uche and Aderemi Adegboyega.
According to a source, the ex-NSITF chairman reported to EFCC after going underground for a while.
The source said: “We have been investigating over N62.3billion fraud in NSITF during Olojeme’s tenure between 2009 and 2015. Out of the sum, preliminary findings indicated that the ex-NSITF boss allegedly diverted $48, 485, 127.
“She allegedly used her account officer in First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) to collect the $48.4m from some NSITF contractors through a BDC operator.”
The Nation obtained the report on the probe. It states: “That through this process, Dr. Ngozi Olojeme, the then NSITF board chairman, has collected $48,485,127 from her account officer at FBN, which cash he collected on her behalf being the dollar equivalent of monies paid to BDCs by NSITF contractors.
“She and others also diverted huge cash allocated for allowances of its staff and compensation to contributors. Detectives actually traced some of the NSITF funds in the personal accounts of Olojeme and the former MD, Umar Abubakar.
“For instance, Abubakar and others converted N18billion, being contribution from the Federal Government as take-off grants and Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS) for MDAs.
“The said sum was diverted into personal accounts by an e-payment mandate jointly signed by Umar Munir Abubakar and Henry Ekhasomi Sambo.”
The report added: “It was discovered that the NSITF accounts in First Bank and other banks have witnessed a total turnover of over N62,358,401,927 between 2012 and 2015 from the Employee Compensation Scheme contributions.
“That out of the N62b, the Federal Government contributed N13,600,000,000 while N48,758,401,927.80 was contributed by the private sector. That there were several payments to individuals and companies from the NSITF bank accounts for purported contracts or consultancy services.
“That some individuals and companies that received these payments, in turn, transferred part of the monies directly to the NSITF officials while others transferred huge sums to bureaux de change operators who changed them to dollars.”
The source said: “Olojeme has made useful statement to our team of investigators. We are probing clues that some of the looted cash had been diverted to the prosecution of the 2015 general election because Olojeme was the Deputy Chairman, Finance Committee, of the Goodluck Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organisation.
“From preliminary findings, she is likely to face trial like other top officers of NSITF.”

2019: National Assembly to pass 12 electoral reforms bills
National Assembly, Abuja
Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, Hajiya Aishatu Dukku, on Tuesday said the National Assembly was working on 12 Electoral Reform Bills to be passed before the 2019 elections.
Dukku made this known at a session of coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) known as “Situation Room’s Fourth Stakeholders’ Forum on Elections’’ in Abuja.
She said that the bills which sought to amend the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 and the Electoral Act 2015 were referred to the committee after second reading “for further legislative action’’.
She said that major areas the bills sought to alter included procedure for the use of Smart Card Reader in elections.
Dukku said that there was also the bill proposing that a court or tribunal should declare the person with the second highest votes winner of an election if it found that the first winner was not qualified to contest.
Another bill, according to her, is the one to mandate political parties to ensure that women leaders are truly women and that all youth leaders are between 18 years and 45 years.
She said that there was also the bill to increase maximum election expenses to be incurred by a presidential or governorship candidate, senatorial, House of Representatives, state assembly and area council chairmanship elections.
“Also included is a bill to amend section 34 of the Principal Act to enable candidates who observe that their names were omitted from the commission’s list of nominated candidates to notify it.
“This should be in writing not later than 21 days to an election adding that it also sought to amend section 49 to allow an eligible voter in an election to notify the presiding officer of an omission of party logo.’’
The lawmaker said that the 8th House of Representatives was committed to carrying out further electoral reforms as a matter of priority and had outlined the objective in the legislative agenda adopted in 2015.
“This is more so as the 2015 general elections highlighted some gaps in the legal framework of our electoral process because while we all acknowledged the 2015 elections, there is still work to be done.
“Going forward,12 bills awaits legislative action; furthermore, as both the 1999 Constitution and the 2010 Electoral Act as amended, to regulate the conduct of elections in Nigeria, the committee’s report will strengthen the process.’’
Dukku said that the committee received inputs from stakeholders, and that submissions and memoranda received covered eight areas.
“The areas are electronic voting and use of technology in elections; youth and persons with disabilities in political party structures and elections; regulating election expenses, and increasing penalties for electoral offenders and consequential constitutional amendments.
“Others are Diaspora voting, increasing the participation of women, enshrining the smart card reader in the legal framework and creating an electoral offences commission and tribunal,’’ she said.
She expressed optimism that the bill would be passed by both chambers of the National Assembly and signed into law to sanitise Nigeria’s electoral process and provide a level-playing field for credible elections.
In his remarks, Convener of the Situation Room, Mr Clement Nwankwo, advised that the legal framework on election should be done ahead of the 2019 elections.
Nwankwo said that the urgency of passing the electoral law should be the concern of the National Assembly now, adding that Nigeria was losing time.
He urged CSOs to be ready to monitor political parties early enough to know their campaign promises so as to hold them accountable when they eventually emerged victorious.
He also urged Nigerians to be at alert and prepare for the 2019 electoral process and to know the right candidates to vote for, “for progress’’.

Mujaddadi said the grant was one of the present administrations’ efforts at enhancing the economic fortunes of the under-privileged people in the state.
He pointed out that the programme was also to encourage women, particularly those in rural areas, to engage in productive activities.
‘’This money was distributed to the beneficiaries for free to enhance their small businesses.
‘’An eight-member committee was set up to select the beneficiaries irrespective of their political affiliations or backgrounds.
‘’The government just saw the need to assist small scale business holders across the state, considering the economic hardship in the state and the country at large,’’ Mujaddadi said.
He said that the gesture would be extended to the rest 26 local government areas of the state, where another batch of 20 beneficiaries would be selected from each of the wards.
‘’This one in Dutse is just the starting point as the committee will go to the other 26 local government areas and do the same thing.
He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the gesture so as to achieve the desired goals.

Mujaddadi said that 20 beneficiaries were selected from each of the eleven wards in Dutse Local Government Area.
The special adviser said the beneficiaries included local food vendors such as roasted meat (suya) and beans cake (kosai) sellers, engine oil sellers and groundnut millers.
He explained that N2.2 million was disbursed to the beneficiaries as 110 of them received N5,000 each while 55 of them received N10,000 each and 55 others also received N20,000 each.
The governor’s aide pointed out that the fund was not a loan, but a free gesture from the state government.

Gov. Dickson wants PDP open to all Nigerians
Seriake Dickson, Bayelsa gov
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa and Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee, has advised the new PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure that ordinary Nigerians own the party.
Dickson gave the advice at a two-day retreat for the PDP NWC and State Chairmen, with the theme “Repositioning PDP for Dominance and Electoral Victory”, on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said that the power of the people was the best armoury the PDP can use to relaunch itself in 2019.
“There is no armoury anywhere that is stronger than the power of the people.
“This new PDP should be thrown to the Nigerian people, including those in the grassroots so that popular candidates can emanate from the ordinary people.
“Let the people own the party. These are the ways to reposition PDP for dominance and electoral victory.
“This is the abiding principle that fired the founding fathers to form the PDP in 1998 and the onus is on us more than ever before to consolidate this philosophy in concrete terms.”
The governor also advised the PDP leaders to equip themselves with necessary skills and knowledge on conflict management.
He said now that the PDP was in opposition, its success to a large extent depends on the leaders understanding of the dynamics of managing conflicts within the party.
“Political party administrators must understand that having conflict interests even within a party is a normal phenomenon.
“In any political system and even within a political party, you will have conflicting tendencies and all of them, important and legitimate.
“Just as society is made up of different contending interests, also within a political party itself, it is normal to have tendencies.
“It is essential that party administrators understand the importance of these dynamics.
“It is now the duty of the NWS to build the party bureaucracy with the understanding of these essential dynamics.
“So when you see conflicting interests, conflicting ambitions, know that it is normal.
“Your duty is to see, working with other colleagues, to resolve these crises through the laid down processes of the party.
“The only thing we insist on is reconciliation which is why we are now reaching out to everybody since the convention,” he said.
He disclosed that his committee was already making a move to meet with one of the party Chairmanship
Aspirants in the just concluded convention, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, to persuade him to drop his legal suit against the party.
“In this party, everybody is important, every leader is important,” Dickson said.

Pistorius appeals for sentence cut
Oscar Pistorius
Paralympic gold medallist Oscar Pistorius has appealed to South Africa’s highest court to cut the sentence he got for murdering his girlfriend, legal documents showed on Tuesday.
Pistorius was jailed for six years for shooting dead girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, but prosecutors have argued that the sentence was “shockingly lenient”.
An appeals court agreed last month to more than double the term to 15 years.
Pistorius filed documents to the Constitutional Court on Monday challenging the appeals court’s ruling.
The judgement, he argued, disregarded material findings of the trial court, which showed “compelling circumstances justifying a departure from the prescribed minimum sentence”.
Fifteen years is the minimum usually given for murder.
Pistorius said this was in breach of his constitutional right to a fair trial and sentencing.
When asked about Pistorius’ appeal, Steenkamp’s family spokeswoman Tania Koen said: “It’s his legal right to do so and we have to respect the legal process. It is what it is.”
Legal analysts have said such an appeal to the Constitutional Court has slim chances of success.
Pistorius’ family spokesman was not available to comment.
Rights groups in a country beset by high levels of violent crime against women say Pistorius has received preferential treatment compared to non-whites and those without his wealth or celebrity status.
Although in jail, Pistorius has remained in the news.
He suffered a bruise in a fight with another inmate after spending too long on a phone call, a prison spokesman said.

Boko Haram crisis claims 32,842 death
The Boko Haram crisis in Northeast Nigeria has claimed 32,842 death in 10 years, says a report by the Nigerian Watch Project.
The report is the 6th Annual Report on lethal violence in Nigeria covers the period between 1 January and 31 December 2016. It has been written at the University of Ibadan, with the support of the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) and the French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA-Nigeria).
According to the report, in ten years, from 1 June 2006 to 31 May 2016, the Boko Haram conflict has caused a total of 32,842 fatalities, almost one-third of the 101,480 deaths recorded during this period in the Nigeria Watch database.
“Roughly the same numbers of people were killed directly by the insurgents (16,666) and by security forces (16,182). At first glance, Boko Haram members seemed to be more focused on attacking civilians than the army. Out of 16,666 fatalities, 1,073 could not be identified as civilians or combatants, and 1,689 were military, police, spies, prison wardens, or militiamen of the CJTF (Civilian Joint Task Force).
“Most of the victims (13,904) were civilians, including 25 foreigners and 582 women and children. During the same period, the security forces killed ‘only’ 1,309 civilians, including 96 women and 31 children, while 1,445 casualties could not be identified. Most of their victims (13,428) were considered as ‘terrorists’. This is because the military usually do not admit killing civilians.
“For instance, people who die in detention are assumed to be terrorists, even though they have received no trial. To recover their bodies and bury them properly, family members have to sign forms acknowledging that their relatives were insurgents. On the other hand, the army tends to report Boko Haram atrocities against civilians while denying the victories of the group when it succeeds in killing soldiers,” the report said.
The report quoted an interviews conducted by Marc-Antoine Pérouse de Montclos in Maiduguri in 2015 and 2016, which said the total number of victims could actually have reached 70,000 people in ten years, because the Nigerian media do not report from rural areas they could not access.
It added that in Borno, retired civil servants who witnessed extra-judicial killings confirmed that the security forces had in fact a more deadly impact, as they argued that the insurgents did not have the same firepower and that Boko Haram targeted only individuals, especially public officials, until the emergency rule in 2013 and the campaign of terror launched by Abubakar Shekau to deter people from joining the CJTF.
“Between 2010 and 2012, the military may have killed thrice the number of civilians killed by Boko Haram members,” it said.

Ambode unveils Alhaji Rafiu Jafojo Recreational Park
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has immortalized the late Alhaji Rafiu Jafojo by naming a newly built recreational park in Shasha area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria after him.
Jafojo was a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State during the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande.
Ambode said the naming of the park after Jafojo justified his administration’s committed effort towards recognising past heroes who laboured to make Lagos the destination of first choice among the States of the Federation.
“In order to achieve the Lagos of our dream, we therefore embarked on massive landscaping and greening projects, as well as establishment of more recreational parks and gardens with the ultimate desire to establish parks and gardens in all the 57 LGs and LCDA’s of the state.
“This recreational park, christened Alhaji Rafiu Jafojo Recreational Park is one of such parks and this is to be dedicated to the recreational activities of the Awori community and the adjoining towns. This administration also commissioned the JJT Park in Alausa, Ikeja, in honour of three of our past governors who laid the foundation of what Lagos is today. Rtd. Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson, AlhajiLateefKayodeJakande and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu were some of our past heroes whose name were immortalised with the JJT Park,” he said.
Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Samuel Adejare said the park without doubt, would add value to and improve the lives of beneficiaries.
Special Adviser to the Governor on the Environment, Babatunde Hunpe said the Shasha Recreational Park occupied approximately a total land area of 15,447 square meters with soft and hard landscaping and recreation facilities for basketball, children playground, gazeboes, and water fountain, commercial stand among other facilities.
“Also adorning this facilities are ornamental plants, palms, garden seats, trees of various types, rotunda, garden lights, gazeboes with seats, multipurpose court, children playing ground, irrigation facilities, toilet facilities, and parking area.
“The administration has continuously placed emphasis on the need of the people and has relentlessly initiated and implemented policies and programmes that would enhance the aesthetic of the environment and promote health and wellbeing of the citizenry,” he said.
Hunpe stated that the objectives of the new Environmental and Urban renewal laws, including the campaign on tree planting were designed to achieve a serene, healthy, beautiful and conducive environment and reduce stress on our citizen.
“The unveiling of this park today is in line with the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) which is aimed primarily to make our environment a better place to live. It has the potential to provide jobs for our teaming populace with focus on investors, unskilled labour and committed environmentalists.
“There is no doubt that this park will enhance the aesthetic of the area, improve communities’ relationships and more importantly increase the work ethics of people within and around the park,” he said.

Alonso’s lone strike win it for the Blues
Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso celebrates his goal.Chelsea edged past Southampton thanks to Marcos Alonso’s winner to move level on points with second-placed Manchester United in the Premier League.
Alonso’s long-range free kick beat Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster to put the Blues ahead in injury time of a first half the hosts had dominated.
Eden Hazard thought he had doubled the Blues’ lead after the break, but Cesc Fabregas was flagged offside in the build-up, BBC reports.
Pedro hit the post and Fabregas shot wide as Southampton rode their luck at Stamford Bridge and watched their winless streak increase to five games.
It is an eighth win in their past 10 Premier League games for Antonio Conte’s side, who sit 11 points adrift of leaders Manchester City alongside Manchester United.
However, United, who boast a better goal difference than Chelsea, face West Brom on Sunday.
