SARS operative allegedly kills man in Ondo over woman

Officials of the Special Anti Roberry Squad, SARS, led by Inspector Oladele Ojelabi has allegedly killed a young man, Seun Ayoade.
He reportedly died in a mysterious circumstance at the SARS detention facility in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
It was gathered that the officers arrested the deceased and others on Tuesday October 17, 2017 somewhere around Oke-Aro in Akure metropolis.
Already, wife of the deceased, Mrs Gbemisola Okoro, who is also a police officer, has accused the SARS officer, Ojelabi, of making constant love advances to her before he reportedly killed her husband.
The wife explained that her husband and Inspector Ojelabi were mutual friends.
Mrs Okoro, who was working at Fanibi Police Station, Akure before she was transferred to Osogbo, Osun State, said all efforts made to discourage Ojelabi from making love advances to her fell on deaf ears.
She narrated “But I use to tell him that I cannot have a relationship with him because I am married to his friend and with children.”
She narrated that a hairdresser identified as Ademilola was forcefully arrested in her shop around New Town, Oke-Aro, ordering her to lead her to the houses of the victims.
The hairdresser told newsmen that a woman allegedly led the officers to her shop in the evening of that fateful day around 5pm, and took her and a brother to their headquarters along Oda Road, Akure.
According to her, all entreaties to know her offence were abortive and the SARS also declined to allow her call her husband, insisting that she must follow them to their office.
“They commanded me to start mentioning the names of my mother’s children when we got to their station.
“As I mentioned Ayodeji, they shut me up that that was the person they were looking for,” she said.
The hairdresser led the officers to arrest Ayodeji, who took them to Seun, and the three siblings were kept in detention together with the deceased and some other people without telling them their offences.
“The SARS officers didn’t release me until 8am the following day but refused to release others.
“As I was trying to secure their release, I met Inspector Ojelabi who promised to help me and had sexual intercourse with me,” she lamented.
The step-father of the deceased, Mr. Femi Ajilo, disclosed that late Seun and Abayomi were with him at Igbara Odo, Ekiti State on the 15th of October 2017 for his church’s harvest.
“They left my place the following day only to hear that they had been arrested and put in detention the third day in Akure. I was mercilessly battered by the SARS when I got to the station to look for them.
“It was a superior officer who came to my rescue and saved me from the brutality of the officers; he put me in an office where I slept till the following day when I was released.
“They accused me of being the father of thieves because they alleged that Ayobami, Seun and others were armed robbers.”
Ajilo said he saw Abayomi the night he was detained though he didn’t see Seun because the officers did not give him opportunity to talk with the former, let alone asking for the latter.
“My sad experience with the SARS operatives made me to approach human right defenders in Akure to narrate my plights and that of those who were arrested,” he said.
The families of the deceased urged the state government and the Commissioner for Police, Mr. Olugbenga Adeyanju to wade into the matter and ensure that the culprits were brought to book.
One of the human right activists, Pasito Adewumi Owolabi, said the officers accused the deceased and his friends of armed robbery, saying a gang that was arrested for car-snatching and huge money theft named Seun Adetola as their leader.
Owolabi noted that the statement which the SARS officers attached to the deceased record at the mortuary stated that he was killed, with bullets wounds all over his body.
“But there was no bullet wound at all on his body, not even a scratch. We even investigated at Oshinle and Oke-Aro; the residents said there was no armed robbery incident in the areas for a very long time,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the commisonner had ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
Joseph, however, said it was a mere allegation against the security personnel, assuring that if the SARS officers were found guilty, they would be dealt with accordingly.

Izu Joseph: 3SC blackmailing my family, they only paid us N284,800 – Father of late player cries out

Pa Reuben Izu Martin, father of the ex-slain Shooting Starts Sports Club (3SC) player, Joseph Izu, has refuted a claim by the club that it has paid six months salary arrears of the deceased into his account.
Pa Reuben Izu Martin, who made this declaration in a statement sent to DAILY POST on Thursday, noted that “The management of Shooting Stars football Club has paid the sum of N142,400 twice into my account and not six months as been claimed by the club”.
Izu, an indigene of Rivers State while holidaying was allegedly killed by some soldiers in Bayelsa state over a year ago.
Pa Reuben Izu noted that the need to put the record straight became necessary because it is the custom of the club to find a cosmetic solution to their request immediately after a public outcry like this .
He said “I, Mr. Reuben izu Martin father to late Izu Joseph wish to let the public know that the management of Shooting Stars football Club has paid the sum of N142,400 twice into my account and not six months as been claimed by the club.
“This is the 2nd time they are doing it and it appears it is done immediately after a public outcry as regards the way they have treated my son, Joseph Izu’s finance since his death.
“I called Balogun the GM to explain that amount payed and Balogun sent a text that the money is made up of salaries, bonuses and others and promised to send the breakdown when he gets to Ibadan as he is taking care of his sick son. Up till now no information from him.
He noted that the family is not begging for money but is requesting for the money their departed son worked for before he was killed.
“We are not begging Shooting Stars for any kind of money, but for what my son worked for before he was killed.”
He said what the family want is nothing but justice served on the soldiers who killed their son.
“At this point, the family wants justice for Izu from the soldiers who killed him as well as Shooting Stars to pay his dues.”
Pa Reuben Izu while making further clarification enjoined the 3SC management to stop blackmailing the family especially, a brother to the deceased, Mr. Reuben Izu Jnr simply because he was fighting for his late brother.
He said “I need to know why Shooting Stars is blackmailing my son simply because he is fighting for his late brother.
“My son, Reuben Izu Jnr. has never wanted his late brothers money to be paid to him, he is mandated by me on behalf of the family to ensure that 3SC pays salaries owed my son.
“I call on the oyo State government to investigate the club management as they have clearly shown unprofessionalism in handling my son, Izu’s finance.
“I don’t know why its so difficult for 3SC to furnish the family with details of debt profile to late IZU Joseph.
“Instead of paying an amount without any narrative. I spoke with the COO of the LMC on this issue last week in Jos during the AGA of NFF. Responding to his question on the exact amount of late Izu Joseph salary, I told him that from the records we have in his contract with the LMC, is about 400, 000 monthly.
“He told me that the issue is that in most cases the amount in the contract with the LMC is different from the one they signed with the Clubs. The Union has also written to the LMC to compel 3SC to furnish them with details of the actual amount owed Izu in terms of outstanding salaries and match allowances .
“The club is yet to respond. The LMC has equally assured that monies due 3SC will not be paid to them until this issue and others are sorted out”.

Local Government Officials Allegedly Kill 38-year-old Widow | Photo

A petty trader, Mrs. Toyin Adelanke, has reportedly died when tax officials from Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State wanted to collect tax from her, NewTelegraph has reported.
Speaking about her death, the victim’s 89-year-old mother, Mrs. Abike Ijiyemi, told journalists yesterday that Toyin planned to give her food the day she died in the hands of the tax collectors.
Toyin (38) reportedly died while the tax officials were trying to seize her television for failure to pay tax. It was learnt that Toyin fell down while dragging her television with the government officials which they wanted to seize because she did not pay the money demanded from her. The local government officials were said to have taken the television to their vehicle and left without attending to the woman.
It was also learnt that the woman died later and her remains were deposited at the morgue of the State Specialist Hospital, Akure.
However, Toyin’s distraught mother told journalists at Idanre in Idanre Local Government that: “In the morning of the day she was killed, she called me and said that she had bought some foodstuffs for me. She promised to bring them to me at Idanre the second day. Instead of coming to fulfil her promise, it was the announcement of her death they brought to me.
“My daughter was a widow. Her husband died four years ago. She has been singlehandedly taking care of their only child since then. She was the one who sponsored the education of their 24-year-old son up to the Gateway Polytechnic in Ogun State. She was the person taking care of me and paying my debts. Also, Toyin’s sister, Mrs. Mojisola Otitilowo, said the deceased was in her shop at Bolajoko Street, Oke-Aro area of Akure about 2p.m. when the government officials invaded her shop.
She said: “They were four in number. Three of them disembarked from the vehicle they brought. “They did not accept her plea. One of them removed the television from where it was but Toyin started dragging it with them.
She fell down. Despite that, the council officials went away with the television. “A woman, who came to buy sachet water, discovered that Toyin was unconscious where she lay on the floor of the shop and raised the alarm which attracted neighbours who rushed in and started pouring water on Toyin to revive her.
“When it was realised that Toyin had given up the ghost, the matter was reported at the Police B Division, Oke-Aro.”
Toyin’s son, Ayodele Adelanke, demanded that his mother’s killers be brought to book, saying she must not die in vain. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident, described it as unfortunate. Joseph said some suspects had been arrested over Toyin’s killing.
