Ask Style Girlfriend: Grooming Habits, Date Looks and More

We’re back with an all-new “Ask Style Girlfriend” video!

This time I’m being joined by two very special guests (but don’t tell them I called them “very” special, or it’ll go to their heads): my brother and sister, Aaron and Alana!

As part of SG’s ongoing collaboration with Rogaine, the three of us answered reader questions, and waxed poetic about who inherited the “cheap” gene when it comes to clothes (hint: not me).

This kind of chatter is exactly what we’re doing anyways, at the bar down the street after family gatherings when “the adults” have gone to bed. You know the type of place I mean: you used to deem it “just for old people” but now you don’t mind because it’s close by, and besides, it’s not as noisy as the spots downtown…
If you missed the first two installments of this series, check them out here and here. We’ve been talking all this year about how we’re each trying to get ahead of inherited family traits that we’re…not so crazy about. For me, it’s my mom’s tendency to stress out in social situations. As for my sister, it’s making time for a workout plan that helps her avoid our dad’s dad bodphysique.
For my brother, it’s about committing to a regular Rogaine treatment routine to combat thinning hair he got from…well, who knows? It can come down from either side of the family (so thanks a lot, Mom and/or Dad’s genes). He started using Rogaine at the first signs of thinning hair (after some hemming and hawing about it..but you’ll hear more about that in the video).
Be sure to watch all the way to the end to see them lose their minds trying to answer the last reader question (apparently, it was a doozy).

From buying jeans to can’t miss date night outfits to good grooming habits, we’ve got you covered.

Watch for:
  • 00:17 How much is too much to spend on jeans?
  • 1:08 What’s a great date night outfit?
  • 1:44 What’s an easy upgrade for a guy to make in his grooming routine?
  • 3:03 What’s one thing men wear that women love?
  • 3:58 What’s the most important thing I can do now to make sure I look good later?
TELL ME:
WHAT’S ONE THING YOU AND YOUR SIBLING(S) JUST *CANNOT* AGREE ON?
In partnership with Rogaine. As always, thanks for supporting the brands that make Style Girlfriend possible!

VAIDS Deploys 700 Community Tax Liaison Officers To 9 States

Mrs Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Finance
The Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) has deployed over 700 graduates as Community Tax Liaison Officers (CTLOs) to nine states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The CTLOs have been handed the responsibility of creating awareness about the VAIDS scheme and taxation in general.
A statement by the VAIDS office revealed that the CTLOs, posted to their various states of origin, will carry out the assignment in Lagos, Ogun, Enugu, Edo, Cross River, Delta, Oyo, Kaduna and Nassarawa states as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
The CTLOs were deployed after undergoing an intensive week-long training on taxation and customer service in Abuja.
The statement also disclosed that more CTLOs will, over the coming weeks, be deployed to Kwara, Niger and Adamawa states. Other states are to follow later
The scheme is expected to create a total of 7,500 opportunities for Nigerians as CTLOs through the N-Power scheme of the Federal Government
“They (CTLOs) will be on the streets, markets, malls public places and visit offices,” the statement said.
The VAIDS scheme, a tax amnesty initiative of the Federal Ministry of Finance in collaboration with state revenue agencies, was launched on 29 June via an Executive Order signed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
It was conceived to provide solutions to almost every defect of the nation’s tax system, including the tepid attitude to taxation.
VAIDS is specifically targeted at taxpayers, who have failed to fully declare their taxable income and assets or have not been paying the tax due.
It is also aimed at those who are underpaying or under-remitting; those under a process of tax audit or investigations by tax authorities or are engaged in tax disputes with tax bodies, but are prepared to settle the disputes out of court.
The scheme, which aims to cast the country’s tax net wider, offers confidentiality as well as waiver of the interests and penalties to those who had underdeclared or never declared previously earned incomes and acquired assets. It equally offers tax defaulters the option of spreading payment of outstanding liabilities over a maximum period of three years as may be agreed with the relevant tax authority.
A projected revenue of $1billion is expected to be generated through VAIDS. The scheme is expected to bring about an appreciable jump in the country’s tax-to-Gross Domestic Product ratio from the meagre 6 per cent it currently is to a more respectable 20 per cent by 2020.
VAIDS has been lauded by many tax experts, who described the scheme as the last chance for tax defaulters to regularize their tax status and escape stern penalties, including prosecution and payment of penalties for undeclared income and assets.
The scheme is expected to benefit from a variety of information sharing agreements among countries and other international instruments, including the Standard Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) to uncover previously concealed assets and revenue sources.

Rivers’ health workers join nationwide strike

JOHESU members demonstrating
Okafor Ofiebor/Port Harcourt
All public hospitals in Rivers State have been deserted as health workers in the state under the aegies of Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) joined their counterparts in the ongoing nationwide strike.
Announcing the commencement of strike by the Rivers state branch of JOHESU, the branch Chairman, Dr. Chris Mbata said members in the state have no other option than to joint the nationwide strike since that is the only language the government understands.
According to Dr Mbata, the state branch has to join the nationwide strike as directed by the national body.
“The issues we have now is implementation not negotiation. The issues have been there over the years. We have passed the level of negotiation. But I can tell you that nothing will come out of any further negotiation because it had been signed and sealed before now.”
The JOHESU Chairman directed all health workers in the state hospitals in 23 local government areas to sit at home as part of the nationwide strike.
Meanwhile, the JOHESU strike has become a source of worry to patients and their relations who patronize government hospitals.
At the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital this morning health workers and patients lamented the incessant strike in both state and federal hospitals.
A patient who gave her name as Angela Ibekwu said she is troubled that the government cannot take care of those who take care of the sick. She called on government at all levels to answer them so that they can treat the sick as over 99 percent of the sick in Nigeria cannot afford overseas medical treatment.
The joint health workers unions while addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, claimed that all the demands they made since 2012 they started negotiations with the government, including the court judgement on 2013 on CONHESS which was in their favour, had not been implemented.
The National Chairman of JOHESU, Comrade Josiah Joy Biobelemoye told journalists that even when the leadership of the union honoured a letter given to them from the health ministry for a meeting at 2pm on Tuesday, the Minister of Health was nowhere to be found till about 3:30pm they decided to leave the place for another meeting.
“On the 10th May, 2012, agreements were reached on issues concerning our members. Issues upon which we could not agree were referred to the NICN.
“We were in court till August 2013 when judgment was given in favour of JOHESU on skipping of CONHESS 10. As we speak, the Federal Government has not paid arrears of the skipping to our members whereas the resident doctors who were neither a party to the case or are on CONHESS insisted they should skip on CONMESS and arrears paid to them while the original beneficiaries are not paid.
“The Federal Ministry of Health has been frustrating the implementation of the court judgments by introducing same scale promotion.
“For instance when members are promoted from CONHESS 9 to 11 at subsequent promotions from CONHESS 11 to 11. This is unacceptable
“Efforts made through several committees to get the agreements reached implemented were frustrated often by the Federal Ministry of Health who is always protecting the interest of the medical doctors.”
The health workers are demanding adjustment of CONHESS salary as done for CONMESS since January 2014, abolition of scale to scale promotion and payment of outstanding arrears promotion, skipping and relativity
Others are autonomy for teaching and specialist hospitals in the country and other issues, implementation of all court judgments and review of retirement age from 60-65 years as done for the tertiary education sector.
He said that the Teaching Hospitals Act gave autonomy to the various tertiary hospitals as they have their separate Boards of Management different from the governing councils of the universities.
However, the Rivers State government has assured patients that it will do everything possible to ensure that healthcare is served to patients in the state.

Exam fraud: Edo government sacks permanent secretary

Edo State Gov, Obaseki
The Edo Government has sacked Dr Osayuware Idahosa, Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Youth and Special Duties, over an allegation of padding the budget for the conduct of primary school examination.
The government also announced the suspension of three officials involved in the alleged scandal, which was put at N283 million.
The decision announced by the Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Mr Paul Ohonbamu, was the outcome of an extraordinary session of the State Executive Council.
Governor Obaseki vowed to unmask the people that sent a N283 million request for the conduct of primary school examination in the state, which was eventually conducted at the cost of N30 million.
Ohonbamu said that the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, submitted a report of the panel of enquiry on the conduct of the 2016/2017 Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination and after due consideration of findings and recommendations, the council discussed and arrived at the decision.
He said that Idahosa was Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Education at the time the alleged fraud was committed and was referred to the State Civil Service Commission for appropriate action, according to the rules and guidelines of the service.
The three other officers involved in the alleged fraud are Barr. S. A. Erhunmwunse Edokpayi, Mrs E.I. Ero-Ugiagbe and Mr Lucky Adagbonyin.
He said that the exco resolved that they should proceed on indefinite suspension without pay and their case forwarded to the State Civil Service Commission for appropriate action.
“EXCO also set up a committee to be chaired by the Commissioner for Employment and Wealth Creation, Mr Emmanuel Usoh to investigate the delisting of about 350 private schools from the list of eligible schools to participate in the Primary School Leaving Certificate Examination.”
The commissioner said that the committee would also investigate the conditions that led to the relisting of the schools shortly after they were delisted.
Ohonbamu further said that the meeting ordered that an audit exercise be carried out into the accounts of the examination committee.

President Trump’s health minister resigns

Tom PriceTom Price, secretary of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, resigned Friday amid a furor over his taking more than two dozen costly private plane trips instead of less-expensive commercial flights.
The White House in a statement said that President Donald Trump intends to tap a top HHS official, Don Wright, to serve as acting secretary of the department.
Wright currently serves as deputy assistant secretary for health and director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
“Secretary of Health and Human Services Thomas Price offered his resignation earlier today and the President accepted,” the White House said, about an hour after Trump said he would decide by Friday night whether to fire Price.
Price’s resignation came a day after he said he would reimburse taxpayers for just a small fraction of the cost of his flights, and after he vowed to not use charter planes in the future.
A longtime critic of wasteful federal spending and the administration’s putative point man on attacking Obamacare — Price had taken 26 flights on charter plans since May, according to a Politico investigation.
In a letter addressed to Trump, Price said he was tendering his resignation in order to allow the administration “to move forward without further disruption.”
“I have spent forty years both as a doctor and public servant putting people first. I regret that the recent events have created a distraction from these important objectives,” Price wrote.
In June, Price traveled on a $17,760 roundtrip charter from Washington to Nashville, Tennessee, Politico revealed. He spent less than six hours there, making two official appearances and eating lunch with his son.
In a four-day stretch in September, Price took flights costing an estimated $60,000 in total, according to Politico. Some of those flights came at times when dramatically cheaper commercial air travel would have been available.
Politico on Thursday reported that Price had also taken trips overseas using military jets, at a cost of more than $500,000 — putting the total tab for his penchant for pricey travel above $1 million.
Also Thursday, BuzzFeed News reported that Price had asked a White House official soon after taking office to tell Trump that he wanted to reopen the executive dining room at HHS, which had been closed since George W. Bush was president.
Price, who only became health secretary in February, was reportedly already on thin ice with top officials in the Trump administration when the controversy exploded over his pricey jet jaunts.
Those officials believed he did not do enough in recent weeks to support an ultimately doomed, last-ditch effort in Congress to repeal and replace major parts of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare.
Price’s department for months has been taking steps to undercut that major health-care law — gutting advertising budgets designed to promote enrollment in Obamacare plans, suspending joint efforts with state-level groups to encourage insurance sign-ups and bad-mouthing Obamacare at every opportunity.
But he was noticeably absent at meetings to promote the passage of the Senate repeal bill, Graham-Cassidy, in September, Politico reported. That bill would have dramatically slashed federal spending on subsidizing health insurance coverage for Americans.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump told reporters “I am not happy about” Price’s use of private planes, “and I let him know it.”
Price on Thursday had tried to tamp down the controversy by saying he would repay the government for the cost of “my seat” on the charter flights. Price said he will pay about $52,000 of the more than $400,000 taxpayer tab for his private trips.
The offer was immediately met with derision by critics who said Price was shortchanging taxpayers.
The 62-year-old Price, a former House member from Georgia, was a prominent critic of Obamacare while serving in Congress.
He also had billed himself as a staunch fiscal conservative with a record of pushing for government spending discipline.
Price leaves the Trump administration after the latest in an unsuccessful string of Republican attempts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
Following the announcement, House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement that Price is a good man who “has spent his entire adult life fighting for others, first as a physician and then as a legislator and public servant.”
“He was a leader in the House and a superb health secretary. His vision and hard work were vital to the House’s success passing our health care legislation. I will always be grateful for Tom’s service to this country and, above all, his continued friendship,” Ryan said.
His departure also comes amid broader concerns about the ethical standards of the Trump administration and its top officials.
While Price has said he received prior approval from legal and HHS advisors for his private flights, his use of charters was in stark contrast to that of his two immediate predecessors as chief of HHS, Sylvia Burwell and Kathleen Sebelius, who took commercial flights to domestic engagements.
HHS’ inspector general is now reviewing Price’s use of private planes.
Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt also has racked up a $58,000 bill on noncommercial and military flights since mid-February, according to The Washington Post.
In a letter to Trump on Thursday, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, pointed out that “federal regulations specifically prohibit official travel by chartered jet when it is not the most cost-effective mode of travel ‘because the taxpayer should pay no more than necessary for your transportation.'”
Grassley asked Trump to urge his Cabinet secretaries to use “reasonable and cost-effective modes of travel.”
The senator noted that in addition to questions about the travel habits of Price and Pruitt, the inspector general of the Treasury Department is investigating the travel expenses of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
During his Senate confirmation hearings as HHS secretary, Price was criticized for having traded more than $300,000 worth of about 40 health-care stocks in the previous four years, which involved companies that could have benefited from legislation he favored as a House member.
For one of those companies, the small Australian biotech firm Innate Immunotherapeutics, Price was offered the opportunity to buy shares at a discount, while sitting on a committee that could affect the financial outlook of the firm.
Price eventually sold his stake in the company during the HHS confirmation process and made a profit of at least $225,000 on a $94,000 investment, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Price during his Senate hearings denied that he invested using nonpublic information.
“Everything that we have done is absolutely aboveboard, transparent, legal and ethical,” he said at the time.

Judge orders Google to shut down mobile app on Catalonia referendum

Google must take down a mobile phone app that tells Catalan voters where they could vote for Sunday’s independence referendum, a judge has ordered.
The decree was issued by Mercedes Armas of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, the magistrate who is leading the legal fight against the referendum, the Europa Press news agency reported on Friday.
It concerns the “On Votar 1-Oct’’ app on Google Play, which Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont publicised on Twitter two days ago.
Spanish authorities have already taken down hundreds of pro-referendum websites, in what is seen by secessionists as an attack on freedom of expression.

Oil rises to $58

Oil prices rose on Friday as investors bet that efforts to cut a global glut are working and that the demand outlook is improving.
U.S. crude was down 8 cents at 51.48 dollars a barrel after earlier rising slightly. Still, the contract is heading for a fourth consecutively weekly gain.
Global benchmark Brent crude was 57.54 dollars a barrel of around 20 percent, this performance is Brent’s best since June 2016.
Earlier in the week on Monday Brent rose to 65 dollars.
The price gains, most of them in the last two-and-a-half weeks, have come as traders anticipated renewed demand from U.S. refiners that were resuming operations after shutdowns due to Hurricane Harvey.
Major world oil producers outside the United States have also indicated they will stick to output cuts to limit supply.
They are getting support from Turkey’s threats to cut off a pipeline from the Kurdish region of Iraq after a referendum where Kurds voted overwhelmingly in favour of independence.

Bishop arraigned in Lagos over N9m fraud

Court gavel.
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Friday admitted a self-acclaimed bishop, Bankole Jefferson, to a N1.5 million bail charged with N9 million fraud.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, who gave the ruling, granted the accused two sureties in like sum.
Aje-Afunwa directed that the sureties must show evidence of payment of three years tax to the Lagos State Government.
The accused, 54, bishop of Mercy Tabernacle Church, Ogba, Lagos, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu told the court that Jefferson committed the offences sometime in January in Ogba, Lagos.
Nwangwu said the accused obtained the money from the complainant, Mr Akinyemi Adebayo on the pretext of supplying diesel.
According to him, the accused committed the offences by conspiring with others still at large.
“The complainant reported the case to the police who later discovered after series of investigations that the accused is fraudulent.
“Jefferson avoided being arrested by travelling to the U.S. on an unknown mission.
“The accused, on his return, was apprehended by the police and while trying to defend himself claimed that the money he collected from the complainant was for offering in the church.
“The accused converted the money to personal use and all efforts to recover the money proved abortive,’’ Nwangwu said.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years for conspiracy.
The accused, however, entered a not ‘guilty plea’ and his lawyer applied for bail on liberal terms.
The case was adjourned until Nov. 20.

FCT is open for business – Minister

Mohammad Bello, FCT Minister
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Bello, says the Territory is open for business.
Bello said this while addressing participants and investors at the inauguration of 12th Abuja International Trade Fair on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, recent completion works in major Abuja infrastructure networks have opened up Abuja for investment and tourism.
The minister, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Finance and Economic Matters, Dr Bala Liman, described the private sector as the engine for sustainable economic growth.
He said that his Administration was collaborating with relevant stakeholders to explore the great potentials of the Territory in the minerals sector.
The Administration, he noted, was also implementing the National Industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP) aimed at integrating the agriculture value chain and focusing on agro-processing and industrial hubs.
“We are working to provide the enabling environment for investments, trades and entrepreneurship to thrive. Major aspects of this initiative include efforts to eliminate cases of multiple taxation and leveraging technology to improve our business processes.
“The FCT Administration is also partnering with IBM to deploy ICT for a one-stop shopping centre for collection, monitoring and evaluation of payments to FCT’s main revenue generating agencies.
“The digital infrastructure to be established would block revenue leakages, track customer payments, assist in obtaining feedback as well as enable citizen/customer engagement,’’ he said.
Bello reiterated his hope that the FCT light rail transport would open for public services in December.
“Airport business travelers would have a choice, either to board cabs on arrival or departure; or ride on trains from the airport railway station to the Central Business District Central Station or vice versa,’’ he said.
The minister said that FCT was already working to promote Ease of Doing Business in the Territory, adding that it was part of the efforts of Mr President to improve Nigeria’s standing on the World Bank Ease of Doing Business scale.
He, therefore, invited investors to take advantage of the favourable investment climate of Abuja to invest there.
The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ABUCCIMA), Mr Tony Ejinkoye, said the Fair served as a platform for companies and individuals to showcase and demonstrate their products and services.
Ejinkoye, who was represented by the in-coming President of the chamber, Prince Adetokumbo Kayode, called on the present administration to sustain current efforts to diversify the nation’s economy.

Produce Dasuki in court, Appeal Court orders DSS

Sambo Dasuki, embattled National Security Adviser to Goodluck Jonathan
The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday ordered the Department of State Service to produce the detained former National Security Adviser, Retired Col. Sambo Dasuki before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court ruling will allow Dasuki testify in defence of the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh who is standing trial for allegedly diverting N400 million belonging to the government.
Metuh had applied to the Federal High Court to invite Dasuki as a witness in his trial but his request was denied by Justice Okon Abang.
Mr. Metuh, however, appealed the ruling and won at the Court of Appeal where the trial judge directed Justice Abang to fix a date which the DSS must produce Dasuki in court and other subsequent dates.
Channels Tv reports that Dasuki had earlier been arraigned before Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the same court on a five-count criminal charge bothering on possession of firearms alone.
In the two new counts, the Federal Government alleged that between July 16 and 17 2015 at the Abuja residence, Colonel Dasuki was found to be in possession of the sum of a total sum of 210,000 US Dollars.
The Federal Government claimed that the monies were part of proceeds of unlawful deals, contrary to section 15(2) of the money laundering prohibition act 2011; charges which Colonel Dasuki denied in his plea.
He was again re-arraigned on April 6, 2017, before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on seven counts of criminal charges, bordering on illegal and unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition, as well as for money laundering offenses.

Premier League giants, Chelsea and Manchester City will lock horns at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash.
The two clubs will go into the game on the back of Champions League victories at the mid week.
Antonio Conte’s men can move level with Pep Guardiola’s team with a win, which could be City’s first loss of the season.
Chelsea are currently third in the division with 13 points from their first six games with City and Manchester United leading the way.

Neymar finally addresses ‘fall out’ with Cavani

Brazilian forward, Neymar Jr. has accused the media of inventing stories about a serious fall-out with Paris Saint-Germain teammate, Edinson Cavani.
The Paris Saint-Germain star dismissed claims of a spat with Cavani.
Neymar, a €222 million import from Barcelona, argued with Cavani over free-kick and penalty duties during PSG’s 2-0 Ligue 1 victory over Lyon earlier in the month.
The incident was accompanied by reports that the attacking duo’s relationship was beyond repair, with Neymar reported to have called for Cavani to be sold.
Further rumours claimed that the Uruguayan forward was offered €1m to let Neymar take any future spot-kicks.
The Brazil international expressed displeasure over the claims from those he described as having “no clue” about the goings-on at the club.
He told reporters, “They invent a lot of stories. They talk too much. They speak about things that they have no clue about.
“They try to infiltrate the dressing room and they end up making claims about things that don’t exist.”
The former Barcelona man added that future penalty duties had “already been decided” although he refused to say who would take them.

Nigerian govt appoints Ademola Magbojuri as acting NAFDAC DG

Nigerian government on Thursday approved the appointment of Mr. Ademola Andrew Magbojuri as the new Acting Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Magbojuri takes over from Mrs. Yetunde Oni, who recently attained the retirement age of 60 years.
Oni served in acting capacity for 18 months following the sack of NAFDAC substantive DG, Dr. Paul Orhii.
Magbojuri, the most senior director in NAFDAC, until this appointment, was in charge of the agency’s Training and Research Institute in Kaduna.
The new DG also served as Director of Finance and Accounts before he was redeployed to the agency’s Planning, Research and Statistics unit.
Last week, the Medical and Health Workers Union chapter of National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, commenced indefinite strike.
Vice President of the Union, Idu Isua, disclosed that though both the management and the union signed an agreement to review its welfare package since 2013, the terms of agreement are yet to be complied with.
Isua said, “We resolved that funds be drawn from our Internally Generated Revenue to finance the upward reviewed package of staff but to our greatest surprise, nothing was done since then.
“When we came on board as union in 2013, we took a look at the allowances of staff and discovered it was low compared with other agencies that we enjoy same salary scale with.
“The strike was not a fresh one because we took same action two years ago and last year and based on agreement reached, the strike was suspended. However, nothing was done on our salary review up till now”.

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has blasted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for arresting Toyin Ojo, the Ekiti Commissioner of Finance and the Accountant-General.
According to Fani-Kayode, Ojo was picked up while Governor Ayodele Fayose was declaring his intention to run for presidency on Thursday.

Patience Jonathan must speak on $15.6m in Skye Bank – Court insists

The Federal High Court in Lagos Thursday adjourned hearing of Mrs Patience Jonathan’s suit seeking to unfreeze her $15.591million in Skye Bank till November 2.
Justice Mohammed Idris in his ruling, insisted that Mrs Jonathan and other parties must give oral evidence on the ownership of the money.
According to him, all the defendants’ counter-affidavits contained disputed facts that could not be decided without oral evidence.
“In my view, the facts are contentious, and oral evidence needs to be led by the parties herein. In the light of the above facts, this case is generally not suitable for an originating summons procedure.
“In the circumstances, the court hereby orders that the parties herein file pleadings in accordance with the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2009 and trial shall then proceed accordingly,” Justice Idris held.
The EFCC had urged the court not to unfreeze the accounts because the money was suspected to be “proceed of crime”.
Skye Bank Plc, Jonathan’s former aide Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, Pluto Property and Investment Company Ltd, Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Ltd, Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Ltd and Avalon Global Property Development Ltd are the other respondents.
The companies, through their representatives, had pleaded guilty to laundering the money last September 15 when they were arraigned before Justice Babs Kuewumi of the same court.
They were charged along with Dudafa, Briggs and a banker, Adedamola Bolodeoku, for allegedly laundering the money.

As sisters, it makes sense that Gigi and Bella Hadid dig into each other’s closets from time to time. That theory was confirmed recently when Gigi stepped out in the exact same dress Bella wore weeks earlier.
On Wednesday, Gigi turned heads when she was photographed in Paris wearing an elegant $1,995 Brandon Maxwell dress with a plunging neckline and long, white sleeves. The older Hadid sister, who wore the look to a launch party for her new jewelry collection with Messika, paired her ensemble with a stack of Gigi x Messika rings and a diamond choker, estimated at $93,000.

And though Gigi looked stunning in the all-white ensemble, it wasn’t the first time Hadid superfans saw the dress. Gigi’s younger sister Bella wore the dress weeks earlier at Maxwell’s runway show at New York Fashion Week. Instead of tying her hair in a slicked-back bun like her older sister, Bella styled her locks in a loose, tousled look. She also wore the dress cinched at the waist with a near-invisible white belt.

As if we didn’t need another reason to love the Hadid sisters, their outfit sharing-speaks to anyone who’s ever stolen an item of clothing from their sibling’s closet—though it is a little rude that our family hand-me-downs never include haute couture runway dresses.

Serena Williams Just Got the Most Badass Waist-Length Braids

Serena Williams is celebrating motherhood with a brand-new hairstyle. On Thursday, the 36-year-old tennis champ—who welcomed her first child, daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., earlier this month—posted an Instagram debuting a fresh set of waist-length braids.
In the picture, Williams, dressed in a black tank top and short-shorts, posed for a mirror selfie with one hand on her hip and the other gripping her iPhone. Her braids, which were tied in a high ponytail, cascaded down her shoulders, falling just shy of her hips. Williams left the Instagram caption-less, but that didn’t stop her followers from flooding the photos with phrases like “Snatched!” and “Work it.”
The hair selfie is the first time Williams has shared a full-body photo since giving birth to her newborn, who she shares with fiancé and Reddit co-founder, Alex Ohanian. Fans also posted plenty of comments gushing about how gorgeous Williams looks after giving birth just four weeks ago.
While we don’t advocate pressuring women to flatten their tummies at any time, particularly right after giving birth, we can all agree that Williams looks beautiful under any circumstance. And while we’ll stay away from commenting on her figure (as we wish everyone else would), what we feel totally comfortable praising are her epic braids.
