Chelsea poised to complete £75m swoop for fifth and sixth signings

The Daily Express is reporting that the Premier League champions are close to completing a summer swoop for Arsenal midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The title holders have reportedly agreed a £35m fee with the north London club for the 24-year-old and are now working on agreeing personal terms with the midfielder.

According to the same article, the Blues are edging towards a £40m deal to sign Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Chelsea are looking to reinforce their midfield options following Nemanja Matic’s £40m move to their direct title rivals Manchester United earlier this month.

The west London side are also looking to improve their wing-back options ahead of the start of the Champions League group stage.

Antonio Conte will be presumably hoping that Oxlade-Chamberlain can provide competition for Victor Moses at right wing-back.

The England international is capable of playing in a central midfield role, too, although Arsene Wenger has tended to use the 24-year-old in a wide role.

Chelsea have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata so far this summer.
