The Blues are looking to retain their Premier League title this season after their impressive triumph in Antonio Conte’s first campaign at the club last term.
Chelsea were in impressive form last season as they won a record 30 Premier League games on their way towards lifting the trophy for the second time in three years.
However, the west London side did not have the distraction of European football last term as they concentrated purely on domestic affairs.
And Manchester United legend Ferdinand is tipping the Blues to miss out on the title this season.
Ferdinand wrote on instagram: “Third. Chelsea (not enough depth to win it with the Champions League as well this season).”
Chelsea, who have signed four players so far this summer, missed out on the chance to win a domestic double last season when they were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal in the FA Cup final back in May.
They were also beaten by the Gunners on penalties in the Community Shield at Wembley last weekend.
