Nasarawa budgets N122.8bn for 2018 fiscal year

NASARAWA State
Government has earmarked
N122.8 billion for the 2018 fiscal
year.
Presenting the budget
tagged “Budget of sustainable
development”, at the floor
of the House of Assembly
for consideration, yesterday,
Governor Umaru Tanko Al-
Makura said the budget is
aimed at consolidating his
administration’s achievements
in the fight against poverty,
unemployment and to ensure
even development in all
spheres.
Al-Makura, who presented
the budget in Lafia, assured
the Assembly of the state
government’s commitment
to key into people-oriented
projects that have direct bearing
on the lives of the people.
The budget framework
shows an increase of N31 billion
representing 34.25 percent as
against the 2017 appropriation
bill of N91,485,700,231.
“I make bold to state that the
2017 budget recorded optimum
performance. Accordingly,
the execution of projects and
programmes that have direct
bearing on the lives of our
people remained our major
focus. I am pleased to inform
this House that most of the roads
construction, hospitals, sports
facilities, school infrastructure,
power and water projects, as
well as the provision of market
facilities among other projects
have been completed. It is our
determination to complete all
on-going projects within the
next fiscal year.
“The speaker, members, I
am delighted to lay before you
a total budget size of N122.8
billion for the 2018 fiscal year.
“N45 billion representing
36.79 percent of the budget has
been earmarked for recurrent
expenditure”.
Al-Makura called on the
lawmakers to give the budget
proposal a speedy passage to
enable the state government
execute people-oriented projects
for the overall development of
the state.
Responding, Speaker
Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi
assured the state government
of the speedy passage of the
budget.
“I want to assure Governor Al-
Makura, his Deputy, Silas Agara,
his cabinet members, aides and
the good people of Nasarawa
State that the 2018 appropriation
bill which has just been presented
to us will be given expeditious
attention,” he said.
Balarabe-Abdullahi called
on MDAs to give the various
standing committees of the
House total cooperation as
they discharge their oversight
responsibilities.
He also assured the
governor of a cordial working
relationship between in
order to achieve speedy
development.
